Close blasts DUP 'hokey cokey'

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 27th Jul 2000

Commenting on today's resignation of DUP Ministers, Nigel Dodds and Peter Robinson, Seamus Close, Alliance Deputy Leader said:

"To deliberately play hokey-cokey with ministerial positions is an insult to the people of Northern Ireland. It takes a particular kind of political arrogance to treat the people with such contempt."

"Their attitude when conducting ministerial duties and at the announcement of the resignations was disgraceful. They treat the matter as a joke. I find this totally abhorrent."

"It would appear that the Democratic Unionist Party has absolutely no shame. They still cannot accept the will of 72% of the electorate, and are continuing to pursue a wrecking process."
