Neeson condemns Carrick crossbow attack

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 27th Jun 2005

East Antrim MLA and Carrickfergus Councillor, Sean Neeson, has condemned the cross-bow arrow attack upon police in Carrickergus last night, and congratulated the police for taking on the investigation of paramilitary attacks.

Sean Neeson stated:

"This was an outrageous attack on the police as they were doing their job -- investigating crime. A crossbow is a lethal weapon and this attack should be considered as attempted murder.

"The community in Carrick as a whole are right behind the police in enforcing the law.

"It is right and proper that the police do investigate paramilitary beatings and shootings. Those conducting them have no legitimacy, and are in fact engaging in serious criminal activity. These activities have no place in a normal society, and need to be tackled head on."
