Rallies show why Assembly must redouble effort against sectarianism: Ford

12.00.00am GMT Fri 11th Jan 2002

Alliance Leader David Ford has said today's rallies throughout Northern Ireland show the level of opposition to sectarianism and paramilitary organisations.

Backing the ICTU call for all paramilitary organisations to disband, Mr Ford said: "The need to tackle sectarianism is a real issue for thousands of people in Northern Ireland, and today's massive rallies illustrated just how strongly ordinary men, women and children feel about this social cancer."

"Clearly there is a real need for all of us in the Assembly to redouble our efforts to putting an end to sectarianism."
