Wait for evidence on IRA: Ford

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 13th Jun 2002

Alliance Leader David Ford has said that people should not rush to judgment following allegations that the IRA presence in Colombia was sanctioned by the group's leadership.

Mr Ford said: "Clearly there are concerns about the FARC link, but in the absence of real evidence people shouldn't jump to conclusions on the basis of unsubstantiated allegations. However, explanations and clarification will be required from the IRA, as there is a major lack of trust in the process at the moment."
