Rice: DRD has no excuse for flooding of Ormeau

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 16th Jul 2002

Alliance South Belfast representative Geraldine Rice has said the Department of Regional Development has no excuses left for its failure to tackle flooding on the Lower Ormeau Road.

Councillor Rice said: "The DRD have run out of excuses. It is time for proper action to deal with flooding in the Lower Ormeau, as it has been a regular occurrence in there for far too long."

"Despite the annual promise to deal with the destruction and sewage-filled streets caused by heavy rain, nowhere near enough has been done by the DRD to stop it."

"No wonder the DRD offices have been flooded by complaints. At least they aren't knee-deep in filth, as some homes were after DRD inaction."
