Alliance MLA says police still discriminate against elderly12.00.00am GMT Mon 27th Jan 2003 ALLIANCE MLA Kieran McCarthy has said that PSNI plans to increase the retirement age for part-time officers still represents discrimination against older regular officers. Mr McCarthy said: "While there have been some positive gestures made towards older part-time recruits by the PSNI, I believe that appointments should be made on the basis of merit." "As many older people are active, able and wanting to work beyond the arbitrary cut-off retirement age, this is a token gesture." Ends
