Alliance condemns Gregg murder

12.00.00am GMT Mon 3rd Feb 2003

Alliance South Antrim Assembly member David Ford has condemned the murder of John Gregg in Belfast at the weekend.

Mr Ford said: "Murder is murder, and must be condemned no matter what the circumstances. While tensions within loyalism are now obviously very high, nothing will be resolved through further killing, and I would call on all sides to pull back from further violence."

North Belfast representative Marjorie Hawkins said she has requested a meeting with senior PSNI officers in the area, following loyalist activity there.

Ms Hawkins said: "Ordinary people need to feel safe and be protected, and there is an overwhelming case for more resources to be provided to the police to take action against those paramilitaries now engaging in criminal activity."
