Ask for ID' plea after 91-year-old robbed

12.00.00am GMT Wed 5th Feb 2003

Alliance Assembly member Kieran McCarthy has appealed to people in Ballyhalbert to watch out for suspicious activity after an elderly woman was tricked into allowing a couple into her home.

The 91-year-old later discovered that money was missing from her purse.

Mr McCarthy said: "What these people have done to this elderly woman is repugnant. Those behind this robbery may have approached other homes in the Ballyhalbert area, and so I would urge people to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

"I would encourage everyone to ask for ID from anyone who calls at their door if they are at all unsure about letting them inside. No-one who is genuine will mind producing identification."
