Alliance only real alternative to extremism

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 3rd May 2005

Alliance offers the only real alternative to extremism at Thursday's election, the Chairman of its youth wing has stated.

Speaking after Alliance called for the millions wasted on segregated services to be re-invested in providing better health, education and transport facilities, Ian James Parsley stated: "The battles within Unionism and Nationalism have been won. But the much more important battle -- between tribalism and genuine democracy, lies before us.

"I am calling for the electorate at both elections to send an unmistakeable message to our politicians: we want a democratic, stable and prosperous Northern Ireland.

"And to everyone thinking of not voting: if you don't vote, you are effectively voting for extremism. Alliance is the only real centre ground party with any influence in the political process -- allow us to represent you by giving us the strongest possible voice to move Northern Ireland forward.

"A strong Alliance mandate will be a clear message: no more stalling, no more bickering, no more violence. Send an unequivocal message in favour of a shared region that is proud, peaceful, and prosperous by voting Alliance."
