Alliance vote is a vote to "just get on with it!": Parsley

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 22nd Apr 2005

Chairman of Young Alliance Ian James Parsley has called on people in North Down to send a clear message in favour of political progress by sending an Alliance MP to Westminster.

Mr Parsley, who himself is standing for local government in Holywood, said: "Elections are a time when we have the chance to send a message to our politicians. So we are asking the people of North Down to ask what message they are sending with their vote.

"Electing a Unionist MP, regardless of which one, is a message in favour of ongoing political stagnation and wasting millions on segregated services and facilities.

"But imagine the message the people of North Down would deliver by electing an Alliance MP! Sending David Alderdice to Westminster would be a clear mandate for political progress based on the real issues, and for reallocating millions to pay for our public services rather than maintenance of artificial social divisions.

"It has become clear on the doorsteps that Alliance is a serious challenger for the North Down seat. This means that the people of North Down have the chance to change fundamentally the direction of the whole political process on 5 May. By electing an Alliance MP, the message they send to our politicians in Belfast and London is loud and clear: just get on with it!"
