Parsley welcomes first ASBO; calls for follow-up

Chair of Young Alliance and local government candidate Ian Parsley has welcomed the first Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) given out in Northern Ireland, but highlighted concerns over implementation.

The Holywood candidate stated: "ASBOs have come in for criticism from people who argue that people's liberty is being restricted. They will forgive me and my party for being somewhat more concerned about the liberty of decent, law-abiding citizens that those who consistently re-offend and restrict people's liberty, whatever age they may be.

"However, I do not believe that ASBOs are a solution to anti-social behaviour on their own. They are only for use as a last resort. I trust they will continue to be applied diligently and fairly."
