McCarthy condemns tyre slashing vandalism: Portaferry

12.00.00am GMT Fri 4th Mar 2005

ALLIANCE Assembly member Alderman Kieran McCarthy has condemned the actions of those who slashed the tyres of residents in Portaferry last night.

Ald. McCarthy stated:

"This utterly pointless act of vandalism has caused severe inconvenience and cost to Portaferry residents. People are understandably angry that someone could destroy their property in such a callous and thoughtless manner.

"There is, sadly, a small number of young people who are engaged in anti-social behaviour in Portaferry. As we have seen today, they can make people's lives a real misery. This is the type of activity where Anti-Social Behaviour Orders might prove their worth.

"Whoever was responsible needs to catch themselves on and think of the harm they are doing to their community. This is just unacceptable."
