Alliance welcomes progress on Ballyhackamore crossing

12.00.00am GMT Tue 1st Mar 2005

East Belfast Alliance MLA Cllr Naomi Long has welcomed progress on the pedestrian crossing at the new Post Office on the Upper Newtownards Road in Ballyhackamore.

Cllr Long requested the crossing be provided following the relocation of the Post Office to the Spar shop.

Cllr. Long said, "I originally contacted Roads Service to request that they would provide a crossing at the relocated Post Office as many older people and those with mobility problems, in particular, were finding it difficult to get access to the facility as it is some distance from the existing crossing facilities and on a busy stretch of road, and I have continued to lobby Roads Service since they agreed to provide it to ensure that the crossing would be put in place as soon as possible.

"I am delighted to see that the crossing is now under construction and will hopefully be up and running very soon. I am sure that it will make a positive impact on road safety and improve access to services in the Ballyhackamore area for pedestrians."
