Gardai congratulated in Cork blow against organised crime

12.00.00am GMT Thu 17th Feb 2005

Speaking after a number of arrests in the Irish Republic by Gardai investigating money laundering operations in Cork, Alliance Leader David Ford stated:

"I would congratulate the Gardai for their success so far. This appears to have been a significant blow against organised crime which had the potential to cause problems for people all over Ireland.

"Everyone should be careful about their comments before charges are made, but if there are at least suspicions of involvement by people associated with Sinn Féin, then the answers given so far by Sinn Féin leaders will no longer be adequate.

"Perhaps Gerry Adams will now offer a further clarification of his comments in Madrid yesterday if his first apparent clarification is not itself to appear mischievous and misleading."
