Alliance ensures debate on water charges

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 1st Oct 2004

ALLIANCE Councillors Kieran McCarthy MLA and Linda Cleland received unanimous support for a public meeting in Newtownards to give ratepayers the chance to voice their concerns over water charges.

Mr McCarthy said: "This success is the first step in our efforts to give ratepayers an opportunity to voice their opposition to the water tap charges.

"The motion received unanimous support from the council and a meeting will be set up in due course.

"We are hoping representatives from the Government will attend and we will be inviting members from the Coalition Against Water Charges. It should be interesting."
