Grave concerns over Government talks paper

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 21st Sep 2004

Speaking after a series of meetings with the British and Irish governments and political parties at the political talks to restore devolution in Northern Ireland, Alliance Party Leader, David Ford MLA, stated:

"We have grave concerns that today's paper from the two governments has the potential to set back much of the progress that was made at Leeds Castle.

"Alliance has been, and continues to be, involved in intensive discussions to seek acceptable compromises and regain some of the ground that has been lost.

"We will continue to make genuine efforts to move things forward through the talks we are having, although I believe the task has been made more difficult by this paper."
