Alliance councillor dies following illness

ALLIANCE Councillor Noreen McIlwrath died this afternoon after an illness. She was 64.

Cllr McIlrwrath had served on Carrickfergus Borough Council since 1993, and had been active in the field of disability legislation over the years. Her funeral is expected to be held next Wednesday.

Paying tribute to his colleague, East Antrim MLA and Carrickfergus Councillor Sean Neeson said: "Noreen was a very hardworking councillor who will be very sadly missed by myself and the rest of the Alliance group on the Council. Our sympathy goes to her family at this sad time."

Councillor Stewart Dickson added: "Noreen was a friend to everyone in the community who sought her help and advice. Noreen was widely respected among all political groups on the Council and will be sadly missed."
