Ekin condemns threat to Mater worker

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 7th Jul 2004

BELFAST Lord Mayor Tom Ekin has condemned the threat to a worker at the Mater hospital in the city.

Councillor Ekin stated:

"This threat should be lifted without delay. It is simply unacceptable that hospital workers should be intimidated, and I am appalled that this has happened after the recent attack on the Mater by a gang of thugs.

"I visited the Mater shortly after that incident, and I was impressed by the resilience of the staff there and their dedication to helping patients, no matter who they are or where they are from. Some day those who issued this latest threat might be in need of such committed hospital workers, who have given so much to the rest of us."
