Neeson welcomes new nations into European family

ALLIANCE Spokesman on Europe, Sean Neeson MLA, has welcomed the expansion of the European Union from midnight tonight.

Mr Neeson, a member of the Congress of Regional Authorities in Europe, said: "May Day marks one of the biggest days in Europe's history, and as we welcome ten new nations into the EU family we must all recognise that there are both major challenges and opportunities ahead.

"European Union is about breaking down barriers and promoting integration, themes that are central to Alliance. It is particularly encouraging to see eight former communist countries join with us in recognition that when nations and peoples unite, they prosper in peace."
