Neeson to meet Pearson after factory closure

12.00.00am GMT Thu 15th Jan 2004

EAST Antrim Alliance Assembly member Sean Neeson deeply regrets the decision by Solectron to close its Carrickfergus factory.

Mr Neeson stated:

"Solectron have been a major provider for Nortel and this new factory in Carrickfergus was expected to deal with, what was then, expanding demand for products from Nortel. Although there was a decline, the latest figures showed that Nortel were beginning to re-emerge from their past problems and the demand for their products globally has begun to increase.

"I am mystified as to why Solectron has taken this decision and I will be seeking an urgent meeting with Finance Minister Ian Pearson to discuss this and other job losses in the area."
