School bus attack condemned

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 27th Sep 2003

ALLIANCE Councillor Stewart Dickson has condemned the attack on a bus carrying pupils from the Girls' Model School, in north Belfast.

Councillor Dickson said: "This latest attack on school children illustrates a growing and very disturbing trend throughout Northern Ireland. It is completely unacceptable that children - no matter what type of school they attend - should be subjected to violence.

"Aside from the very real danger to the lives of school children, there is huge potential for violence to spiral out of control in volatile confrontations afterwards.

"This is the last thing north Belfast needs, and I would ask those behind this attack to ask themselves what they think they are achieving, because no-one wants this kind of activity to continue."
