Dickson urges public to attend Carrick DPP meeting

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 19th May 2003

Alliance Councillor Stewart Dickson is encouraging members of the public to attend the first meeting in public of the Carrickfergus District Policing Partnership this Thursday.

Cllr Dickson, who is Vice-Chair of the DPP, said: "This is the first time that the Carrick DPP will have met in front of members of the public, so I would urge as many people who can attend to come along.

"This is an important milestone in policing. It will allow those who submitted questions in advance to put questions to senior police officers in Carrick, and others to hear how the police intend to deal with local issues. It will also allow the police themselves to listen to the people directly and find out what their priorities are.

"That represents a new accountability in policing, and I believe this new arrangement will help foster better relations between the PSNI and the community."

Carrick's DPP will be meeting in the Town Hall on Thursday at 7pm.
