Alliance welcomes extra cash for local film industry

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 25th Apr 2003

ALLIANCE MLA Kieran McCarthy has welcomed the announcement by the Government that Northern Ireland's film industry is to receive extra £12m funding over the next three years.

Mr McCarthy, a member of the Assembly's Culture, Arts and Leisure Committee, said: " This extra funding is necessary to encourage local talent to stay in Northern Ireland, as too many young people coming out of our colleges and universities have little choice but to leave in order to make films.

"It will also help to attract film makers here, which is a superb location in which to shoot a film, and will help to promote Northern Ireland abroad."
