Dickson appalled that police officer was stabbed

Alliance Justice Spokesperson Stewart Dickson MLA has expressed disgust at the stabbing of a police officer in Lurgan and the fact that other officers at the scene had petrol bombs and bricks thrown at them. The incidents took place in the Kilwilkee estate in the town.
Stewart Dickson MLA said: "I am absolutely appalled at this whole catalogue of event. My thoughts are with all the officer who was stabbed and I hope that he makes a swift recovery. This was an absolutely horrific incident and it is despicable to think that this can happen to an officer when they are doing their everyday work.
Maze centre offers opportunities and no political games must be played on the issue

Lagan Valley Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn has welcomed news that EU funding has been approved for the conflict resolution centre at the Maze site. Trevor has long campaigned for swift progress on redeveloping the site. He said that all parties must work together to ensure the whole Maze project fulfils its potential and he said there must be no more political games around the issue.
Muir urges Holywood to speak out about Redburn Primary closure

North Down Alliance Councillor Andrew Muir has urged local people to respond to the consultation being undertaken by South Eastern Education and Library Board concerning proposed closure of Redburn Primary School, Holywood.
Cllr Muir stated "With the consultation closing on 20 February 2012 it's vital that people respond and make their views known before this valuable school is lost. Redburn Primary School enjoys strong links with Palace Barracks whilst also an intrisninc part of the local community and shouldn't be facing the axe
Cochrane welcomes new link from the Greenway to the Slipway

East Belfast Alliance MLA Judith Cochrane today welcomed the announcement from Sustrans on the proposed link to connect the Titanic Quarter with Ballymacarrett and the exciting Comber Greenway development in East Belfast.
Sustrans is proposing to re-open a former access route to Belfast's Titantic Quarter as part of works to link the existing Comber Greenway and the community of Ballymacarrett into the revamped docks, so that people can make their local journeys by foot and bike, further promoting environmentally sustainable transport options.

East Belfast Alliance MP Naomi Long and MLA Chris Lyttle have said that they are delighted that, after a long-running campaign by Alliance and local residents, the Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has agreed to adopt the footpaths of Kingsdale Park in East Belfast and bring them up to standard. Due to an administrative oversight in 1959, the pavement was not adopted with the carriageway of Kingsdale Park, and as a result the footpaths have fallen into disrepair, leaving many older people concerned about leaving their homes.

Hendron welcomes agreement by Belfast Council to lowest rates rise in 10 years

Alliance Belfast Council Group Leader Cllr Maire Hendron has welcomed the agreement by Belfast City Council to agree to a below inflation rise in rates of 2.6%. This is the lowest raise in ten years.
Cllr Maire Hendron: "All the parties worked together in a non partisan manner to ensure that an agreement could be reached. We are very conscious of the hard economic burden that many businesses and households are facing but we, as a Council, are committing this increase to an Investment Package which will stimulate the economy of the City and create much needed additional employment.

Lo calls for independent research to be carried out on hydraulic fracturing

Alliance MLA Anna Lo who is Chair of the Assembly Environment Committee, has called for independent and robust scientific research to be carried out into the potential consequences of hydraulic fracturing. Her comments come after one of the companies looking to carry out hydraulic fracturing has carried out its own research into how much shale gas it could extract.
Campbell expresses condolences following Newtownabbey house fire

Alliance Newtownabbey Councillor Tom Campbell has expressed his condolences following the death of man in a house fire in the Rathcoole Estate. A neighbour tried unsuccessful to rescue him.
Cllr Tom Campbell said: "I was deeply saddened by this death. This is a tradegy for his family and friends.
"I would like to express my condolences to his family. His dealth highlights the potential devastating consequences of house fires.
