In an area that has seen constant growth and development recently, Geraldine Rice has placed planning issues high on her election agenda. She has campaigned strongly for a sustainable environment and affordable new housing in South Belfast and against over-development.

As the constituency has some of the busiest and most dangerous sections of road in Northern Ireland, Geraldine has ensured that pedestrians are not forgotten about and roads are made safer. As a result, roads such as the Saintfield Road, have now seen various safety schemes implemented.

A strong supporter of the Good Friday Agreement, Geraldine wants to see the removal of sectarian graffiti, flags and emblems from South Belfast. She has also called for all sections of the community to back the new police service.

As Health Spokesperson, Geraldine believes the crisis in the health services is deepening as the shortage of Doctors and Nurses forces hospitals to reduce patient services. This situation needs to be addressed as matter of urgency, not just for now but for future, otherwise wards and beds will be no longer available for those in most need.

Geraldine works to ensure that schemes helping those suffering from domestic violence are properly funded.
