Long says there was very little in Queen's Speech

May 9, 2012 4:36 PM

Naomi Long MP (Belfast East)Alliance East Belfast MP Naomi Long has stated that there was very little in this year Queen's Speech for Northern Ireland.

Naomi Long MP said: "There was very little in this Queen's Speech for Northern Ireland, with no indication that a Northern Ireland specific Bill to deal with double jobbing and financial transparency of political donations is on the cards, which had been the Secretary of States intention. With many local families and businesses facing a difficult period financially, there was also no stand-out measure to address those economic challenges, such as the high price of fuel in Northern Ireland, which would be of real assistance to them.

"I do, however, welcome the commitment to reform banking and protect the public from having to bail out the banks in future if the more speculative aspects of the industry experience problems, by separating that activity from regular high street banking."
